Top 5: Favorite Fighting Games

This is my all time top 5 favorite fighting games. Some are more popular than others but it’s a good list

5 Bloody Roar
I loved this game on my Playstation. Any game where you can kick butt as a human then turn into an animal an kick more butt is a masterpiece. Perfect for they polygon graphics of the PS1

4 Power Stone
This game was just like an wacky anime. With up to 4 player action on the Dreamcast, this game was a party favorite one I would love to play on a console again. I know it is out on the PSP but hand-helds are not the same :(

3 Street Fighter Alpha 3
Arguably the best Street Fighter of all times. This classic featured multiple modes and a bunch of different characters from Akuma to Guy. Still waiting for it to be released on PSN, still a classic.

2 Soul Caliber 4
I have always loved Soul Caliber, but with the release of 4 they took it to the next level for me. The new critical moves and the robust character creator keep me busy for a long time. I spent many hours working to get a thousand gamer score on my XBox. The surprisingly great online play helped put it to the top of the list. The apprentice and Yoda didn’t hurt either.

1 Marvel vs Capcom 2
For fighting fans this should be no surprise. 3 on 3 carnage, 56 characters and amazingly fast game play. I Started playing the VS with X-Men vs Street Fighter and began importing the rest from japan for my Sega Saturn. When MVC2 came out for the Dreamcast it was a perfect arcade release. I spent hours unlocking all the characters and colors and believe it or not that was my favorite part. Sadly in the arcade releases on XBL and PSN had all the characters unlocked but it did add online play which is awesome.

Honorable Mention

  • Tekken 5
  • Mortal Kombat 2
  • Virtua Fighter 4
  • Street Fighter EX Alpha
  • Marvel Super Heros

That’s my list folks, comments? Leave one.

Top 5: Things to add to the PS3

almostHappy Friday Everyone. This Friday I present to you Red Gamer’s Top 5 list. Yes that right a list, and it goes to 5. This weeks list is the top 5 things to add to the Playstation 3. It only does everything almost everything. This is what I think needs to be added to our Blu-Ray playing pal.

:)

#5 Better Navigation
I love all the things you can do on the dashboard of the PS3, but sometimes it takes way too much scrolling to find what your looking for. How long does it take to change your background? Send a message? Just asking for a slightly more ease of use.

#4 Notification Box
I know what some of you are saying, “it already has that.” Well I still play on a SD TV (sad i know) and that notification box is huge. Imagine playing NBA 2k10 and right in the middle of your shot a huge box covers up the basket and the rest of the top right corner of your screen letting you know loco23 is now online. Can you say annoying, yes I can remove it completely but then I won’t know when Lanabee sends me a note. Thats just not right.

#3 Cross Game Voice Chatting
Pretty self explanatory. Sometimes you get a note in the middle of a game and you just don’t want to type out the response. Why can’t I chat with my Blue Tooth while I’m playing a game? Come on!

#2 Custom Soundtracks
The way the PS3 allows you to copy music from your networked computer and usb drives is awesome, but why can’t I play that same music during a game. Even with some of the great video game soundtracks out there some can get pretty annoying or repetitive ie Marvel vs Capcom 2′s character select screen. It’s only so many times I wanna be taken for a ride!

#1 Complete Backwards Compatibility.
I am guessing gamers who play PS3 knew this one was coming. Okay so let me get this straight, I can play ps3 games and ps1 games but not ps2? How does that work out. So you come out with a new system, its not selling all that well so you take out the ability to play games from what could possible be the greatest console of all time. I don’t get it. Me personally, that very issue is the reason it took me so long to get a PS3. Is it too much to ask to play Kingdom Hearts with a wireless controller?

Love/Hate

So this week I’m going with a change of pace. I wanted to write and share a note for something I love and hate. So here goes:

Dear Xbox 360,

I remember the first day I got you I had so much fun, you even made my girlfriend jealous. We spent a lot of late nights together, having fun, playing with friends. You were new and all my friends loved you. Seemed like you were perfect. Yeah you were loud and had a huge power brick but none of that mattered.

I remember the first time you broke my heart, it was the day you cracked my favorite game. By the time I realized you had already cracked 2 others. So I sent you in, and I hurt with boredom while you were away. When you came back you were as good as new and we went back to having  a great time, until for my birthday you gave me another cracked disc. Thanks :( . I sent you back in and again I forgave you but you were never the same. I got sick of paying to play online and you began to become cold. So cold that you froze my games.

Now my friends were having problems with you too. My cousin got 7 of you before he gave up on you. Almost everyone I know has had to have you repaired at least once. We all live in fear of the dreaded red ring of death. That is no way to live. On top of that you have never truly fixed all of your problems. Your the same as the first day you came out, yes you have a bigger hard drive but what good is that if you won’t cut on.

I’m moving on. I have made the jump to your competitor, PS3. PS3 has slimmed down and runs better than ever and has never had the problems you have had. Plus it plays blue rays, how cool is that? I will still visit from time to time, plus some of my favorite games only play on you so we have that until you break them. So I am off to free internet and blue ray. Most of all it give me something you never have, dependability.

Sincerely,
Redgamer

ps. you suck

pps. i love you

ppps. you still suck

sexbox 360

Hello ladies and gents. Yesterday the sequel to one of my all time favorite games came out. Mass Effect 2, if you have not heard of it shame on you :/. The first Mass Effect gained a ton of attention from main stream media sources. No not because of its eye-popping graphics or its unique blend of first person shooter elements with role-playing elements. Not for its incredible game play, but for a scene in the game that depicted virtual sex. Ohhhh nooo, I know what your thinking “not sex, no one does that”. Rigggghhht. It was the equivalent of  a sex scene in a pg-13 movie and  the game was rated M. You can judge for yourself by checking out the clip on YouTube.

With all the talk about ERSB ratings (check last weeks post), should sex be included in video games? Video games are the interactive movies that can span 20 hours and up. My view on sex in games is the same as my view on sex in movies. If it fits the overall theme and experience of the game then I think it should be allowed. The games are rated for a reason. Each rating carries content that is appropriate for that rating. As long as it doesn’t get out of hand I think adult themes can add to the overall experience of a game the way it does movies. What do you think?

Bad Gamer Parents :(

Games are like interactive movies, and like movies the content in them are created for different age groups. Most parents wouldn’t allow their 12 year old to go and watch a slasher film that is rated R, but many parents buy their children games rated M (for mature). According to a survey conducted by Activision (video game publisher of the Call of Duty series among others) and posted on joystiq.com 82% of gamer parents are aware of ESRB ratings. For those unfamiliar with the ESRB, the ESRB is an organization that determines what age  groups  that each game is appropriate for similar to the way the Motion Picture Association of America rates movies.

With all of that said, it still amazes me the amount of parents I see purchasing M rated games for their children. It leads me to wonder if the parents just don’t know any better or if its that they just don’t care. If the survey by Activision is to be believed then I guess the answer is that some parents just don’t care. These same parents are the ones that blame video games when their children behaving violently. It is the parents responsibility to monitor the content that their children consume. I know its not an easy job with all the available resources kids now days have, but that does not mean to give up completely.  The ESRB was created to rate video games so that the content in them are appropriate for those who interact with it.  Video games are not only for children anymore, so every game isn’t for your 12 year old.

Movies that are rated R contain adult content, video games rated M also contain content that is meant for adults. It is time for parents to take responsibility for what their children play. Learn about the ESRB and find games appropriate for your child. To learn more information on the ESRB and it’s rating system, please visit http://www.esrb.org. Understand the content in the games, then decide whether or not it is appropriate for your child.

Do you think children under 18 should be allow access to M games?

It’s all good yall Tiger Woods yall!!!

Yet again another celebrity/athlete has shown us why we shouldn’t look up to them as role models. By now everyone has already heard about the escapades of Tiger Woods so I pose this question to you. Does anyone buy celebrity/athlete endorsed products simply because of the athlete? I personally could care less about a celebrity endorsement.  I know what your thinking right now, “isn’t this a gaming website?” Yes, yes it is. I was getting to that, hold your horses people. With all the endorsements that Tiger Woods has lost there is still a few that still have stuck around. EA has released a statement that basically says we chose Tiger Woods for his golfing ability and not his personal life. Meaning even though his life is a circus right now, he is still the best golfer in the world. I play Tiger Woods golf because its a great game not because of Tiger Woods. 2 things I wonder and maybe you can help. 1 will some people not buy the game simply because it has Tiger Woods attached to it? 2 would the game be as popular if it was just EA Golf 2010 and Tiger Woods was just one of many golfers? That is just food for thought people, eat up.
